BSA report

The Business Software Alliance (BSA) announced that as a result of actions taken in the first half of 2008, 18,314 internet auctions around the world were shut down. These auctions offered 45,000 illegal copies of software worth a combined 22$ million.

In addition to closing auction sites, BSA wants to prevent distribution of illegal files via P2P networks. Therefore, in the first half of 2008, the organization issued 48,000 notices related to BitTorrent files sharing by 633,000 P2P users, with a total value of 525$ million.

P4P networks more effective than P2P

Distributed Computing Industry Association (DCIA) is developing the new P4P standard that is a relatively little popular, but an interesting alternative to often criticized peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. Compared with them, the main feature of P4P is so-called transfers localization. This method uses iTrackers that download data only from people connected to the same Internet service provider. This may result in a significant download speed increase and reduce the peering points load.
