hackerYesterday, we reported that passwords to thousands of email accounts in Windows Live Hotmail were published on the Internet. However, as the BBC News reports, the next list of passwords to mailboxes has been published on the Intrenet. This time, the list contains passwords to email accounts at such services as Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Comcast or Earthlink.

Will CentMail stop spam?

Yahoo has presented a new initiative to combat spam. CentMail is going to be a technology to certify e-mails and eliminate spam.

Yahoo! closes GeoCities

Yahoo! has decided to shut down GeoCities – the well-known and popular throughout the world free hosting service.

GeoCities is an Internet icon - one of the first free hosting services that was launched in 1994. When in 1999 it was bought by Yahoo!, GeoCities was the third (after Yahoo! And AOL) the most viewed site in the world with 19 million unique visitors a month. Since then, GeoCities has not been developed and today in the era of Web 2.0 services, it is rather outdated.

POP3 access to Yahoo! mail?

Although, this is a pure speculation for now, but it seems that Yahoo! is going to launch the free access to the Yahoo! mailbox through the POP3 protocol. Currently, when you want to purchase the paid access, you will be redirect to the page with the message that the service is not available in sales.

The free access to the mailbox through POP3 would be very wise decision – despite many disadvantages and limitations, POP3 still remains the most popular protocol to receive email.

The end of the Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista

Yahoo has informed about giving up the development of a special version of its Communicator Yahoo Messenger for Windows Vista. The version was once very popular - one of the first applications that use the full capabilities of the Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) - a built-in platform for developers to handle the user interface, in order to obtain rich graphical effects. Yahoo! says that the priority is to provide equally good version of Communicator in any system. In practice, however, the most likely factor was the low popularity of Yahoo Messenger for Vista.
