Ubuntu One for Windows

ubuntuCanonical has released the final version of Ubuntu One client for Windows.

Ubuntu One is a platform for storing and synchronizing files in the computing cloud. The service offers 5 GB of disk space and allows you to synchronize files, contacts, notes and bookmarks between several computers. Users also have access to the Ubuntu One Music Store. After using all the available space it is possible to buy another 20 GB for 30 dollars a year.

Ubuntu without GIMP

ubuntuDuring the Ubuntu Developer Summit, it was announced that the Ubuntu distribution version 10.04 would not contain the default graphics program GIMP.

The decision was taken due to the fact that GIMP is directed to a different group of users than Ubuntu itself. The program is designed for more advanced users while the distribution is created for less advanced users.

Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala released!

ubuntuThe Canonical company has announced the release of the final version of the Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition. Karmic Koala is to be the most user friendly operating system. The system is based on the kernel version 2.6.31, the default desktop environment is GNOME 2.28. The distribution uses ext4 file system and boot manager GRUB2. Pidgin instant messaging client has been replaced by an alternate application called Empathy.

What's new in Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala

During Ubuntu Developer Summit in Barcelona, developers discussed the new features in the forthcoming release of Ubuntu. A large amount of non-official information on this subject can be found Michael Rooney’s blog.
It is worth to mention that this is not official information from Canonical.

Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope is available!

As we wrote a couple of days ago, today the official stable version of Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty Jackalope was released.

The new system brings a lot of new features. The most important changes are: GNOME 2.26, support for the ext4 file system, new styles and notifications settings.

The new GNOME has a function for fonts optimization depending on the current monitor settings (e.g. current screen resolution). Kubuntu is based on the latest KDE 4.2.2.
