Join GNU Generation project

Free Software Foundation (FSF) has implemented a very inserting idea in order to promote Free Software. FSF decided to create the GNU Generation project, which will bring together young people aged 13 to 18 years old and promote among them the idea of free software.

Young people are expected to not only develop the source code but also create the documentation or artistic work (e.g. graphics, icons etc.) or promote free software.

According to the announcement by Sony Pictures Imageworks, a department of visual effects and digital animation of Sony Pictures Digital Productions has launched its open-source development program for graphic artists.

GPL v3 more popular among developers

General Public License is a very popular license which formed the basis of open source software. The analysis of Google Code, which hosts many open source projects, shows that the third version of the GPL is more and are more likely to be selected by the developers of free software.

Open source - Community Awards

Community Choice Awards are granted by the SourceForge.net portal for the open-source projects on the basis of nominations submitted by the community members. One can submit nominations in 12 categories until 29th of May 2009. The winners will be announced on 23rd of July. Although time is short, we encourage you to take part in the nominations process.

GCC 4.4.0 released

The new version of GCC 4.4.0 has been released. It brings many new features compared to the previous version. The most important novelty is Graphite framework that is now integrated with the compiler. The framework enables the partial automation of loops parallelization. In addition, the old registers allocator has been replaced by a new one which is based on new algorithms. Another new feature is support for OpenMP 3.0.
