VirtualBox 4.0 with modular architecture
Oracle has just released the stable version of VirtualBox 4.0 – a free and multi-platform application for running virtual machines.
Edition 4.0 is a pretty significant update. The most important change is a completely new architecture. VirtualBox is now built from the base component and a set of additional modules. Such a structure will facilitate the extension and updating of the functionality of individual elements. In addition, the user interface (now called VirtualBox Manager) has been redesigned. It gained a lot of useful features, such as scaling of the virtual machine screen and many other.
Among other innovations worth mentioning is the possibility of assigning more than 1.5 / 2 GB of memory to a virtual machine on 32-bit hosts, support for the new virtual hardware (Intel ICH9 chipset, Intel HD Audio) and improvements in the OVF format support. There is also an option to control the resources consumed by the virtual machine, dynamic resizing of virtual disks, and a number of minor fixes and improvements. The full list of new features can be found on the home page of VirtualBox.
