Microsoft has released the beta version of Bing Maps. The site uses Silverlight technology.
The new site has more features than the
standard version and offers a smooth transition between different display modes. These can be airline pictures, satellite images, 3D models or classic maps. The site also offers streetside mode that is similar to the street view in the Google maps.
Another novelty is a collection of applications that allow developers to put their own information on the maps. In addition to traditional information available for road traffic, nearby stores and restaurants, one can also find blogs or tweets associated with a given place. There's even a search engine for murals, graffiti, billboards and signs. Photosynth is also available. It makes possible to see panoramic photographs of different places.
Changes in the Bing Maps are presented in a short
film.
