Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala released!

ubuntuThe Canonical company has announced the release of the final version of the Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition. Karmic Koala is to be the most user friendly operating system. The system is based on the kernel version 2.6.31, the default desktop environment is GNOME 2.28. The distribution uses ext4 file system and boot manager GRUB2. Pidgin instant messaging client has been replaced by an alternate application called Empathy.

Ubuntu 9.10 Desktop Edition includes integrated software Ubuntu One that enables to store data in the cloud. Each user can use the free space (2 GB) on the Canonical's servers. For the 50 GB, we have to pay $ 10 a month. In addition, Karmic Koala brings updated software packages: Firefox 3.5, OpenOffice 3.1.1, Amarok 2.2, etc.

The new version of Ubuntu is equipped with the Ubuntu software Center which replaced "Add/Remove Programs" applet. In the future, the program is to be integrated with the Launchpad.net repositories and is intended to be a software directory.

Together with Ubuntu, there is also available Kubuntu distribution. The default Kubuntu desktop environment is KDE 4.3.2.

The latest Ubuntu 9.10 is now available for download on the mirror server. At the same time, there are also available derivative distributions: Kubuntu and Ubuntu Netbook Remix. System images are available in 32 and 64 bit versions.
