Yesterday, we reported that passwords to thousands of email accounts in Windows Live Hotmail were published on the Internet. However, as the BBC News reports, the next list of passwords to mailboxes has been published on the Intrenet. This time, the list contains passwords to email accounts at such services as Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, Comcast or Earthlink.
Yesterday's reports are now officially confirmed by Microsoft on the official blog.
Meanwhile, another list of passwords to mailboxes have been published on the same site - pastebin.com. The list contains about 20 thousand items. Many of them is related to unused or non-existent accounts. In most cases, however, passwords turn out to be correct. We do not know how it is possible to gather such information from so many different sources. It is quite possible that it was obtained when users themselves unwittingly put them on fake websites that imitate original services.
As BBC
informs, Google also confirmed that some passwords were published. All the affected accounts have been protected - passwords are reset.
More information can also be found on the pastebin.com
blog.
