WebKit already supports WebGL
WebGL, an API which makes it possible to display in a browser window advanced 3D graphics rendered by hardware, is now supported by the WebKit engine. The fact was reported on Wolfire Games blog. What does it mean in practice? WebKit engine is currently used in two popular Web browsers - Safari and Chrome. Therefore, we can expect that in near future these browsers will support WebGL. In addition, Opera and Mozilla are members of the group working on the development of the new API.
As we can see on the latest demonstration, the technology brings new possibilities for games and web developers. The biggest advantage is that the WebGL works on all operating systems (Windows, Mac OS X, Linux) and with any hardware platform, which offers default support for OpenGL and OpenGL ES. This allows you to create games or multimedia applications that will run in the same way regardless of the system or device on which they are launched.
