The new version of a free database server PostgreSQL 8.4 has been released recently.

The latest release contains 293 new features and improvements. The most important enhancements are related to commands and tools for administration and monitoring of databases. There are improvements that affect columns in tables.

Also, there are separate settings for each database location, partial match to the GIN index and the exceptions defined by the user. Developers have also implemented parallel restoration from a backup file. This feature can speed up the restoration process even eight times. There is also support for ANSI SQL2003.
