Windows 7 on USB drives

Microsoft is preparing to enter the market of netbooks (lightweight and compact portable computers). The most important step will be the release of the special version of Windows 7 that has the simplified installation process.

Currently, netbooks are dominated by rather old but still very popular Windows XP. Once, Microsoft stops selling Windows XP, it will be necessary to replace it with another system. Windows 7 is a good candidate because it is more efficient and has better resources management than Windows Vista. Since netbooks are not usually equipped with a CD/DVD optical drive, the giant from Redmond is considering the deployment of the new system on the USB drives. It would solve the installation problem on most models of netbooks.

Another solution can be the possibility to update the system through the web (e.g. Best Buy's Geek Squad). Microsoft already offers the opportunity to buy and download Windows online, so it seems that it will not be a big problem to do the same with Windows 7.
