Opera Software is known for introducing innovative solutions in the Opera browser. Now, it is time for the next one. Opera Unite is a technology that enables you to run a server on your computer via a web browser.

Opera Unite allows you share files or run a simple Web server. To share files, simply select a folder from the local disk, and the program will create a URL link that can be sent to friends. To use the new features it is required to have the special edition of the Opera that was made available on the labs.opera.com. It will also be necessary to create My Opera account.

When you log on to Unite Opera, you will get an access to the six basic functions. File Sharing lets you share any files from the selected folder on your local drive. Fridge (virtual refrigerator) is a place where you can leave messages. This tool can also be used to exchange messages with your friends in real time. Media Player is a place where users can upload media files (e.g. music). Photo Sharing generates thumbnails from the images specified by the user. Lounge is a place where you can chat with invited persons. The last function is the Web Server which allows you to create your own web page. In addition, each of these elements can be made available to the public and protected with a password, depending on user preferences. In addition, you can stop the operation of the server at any time.
