Exactly 15 years ago, two scientists working in the research department of Norwegian Telekom Telenor, Jon von Tetzchner and Geir Ivarsøy started a new project – Opera which is currently one of the most popular web browsers. Although Telenor abandoned the project but Jon von Tetzchner and Geir Ivarsøy obtained the rights to it, and in 1995 they founded the new company Opera Software ASA. In April 1995 the first public version of Opera was released. Today, 40 million people use Opera on their computers.

Over the past years, Opera introduced many innovative solutions that have affected modern browsers. One of them is the possibility of viewing multiple pages in the same window. In 2001, Opera introduced mouse gestures, which significantly improved navigation. Other innovations include: Speed dial, Opera link, Opera turbo, full page zoom and sessions.

We invite all users to visit the Jubilee site and to learn more about the Opera history.
