New features in Windows Live Hotmail

Windows Live team has informed about a number of changes that are going to be implemented in the free Windows Live Hotmail service.

Some changes were announced some time ago, for example, the advertising banner will be moved from the top of the screen to the right side. The change may seem trivial but significantly increases the space for emails. Also, a set of several compositions was prepared. The new tab “Today” displays information about our friends' activity - for example, new entries on their blogs. The service is integrated with Flickr and Twitter.

The overall space for emails is increased automatically - the original 5 GB is extended at the end of each month when the current capacity is insufficient, so in theory there is no upper limit. It is also worth noting that Hotmail now offers (currently in the U.S. only) long-awaited access to the mailbox through the POP3 protocol for users of the free version of the service.

Not all of these changes are now available to all - they are introduced in stages, and the whole process should be concluded in the coming weeks.
