Linux Mint 6

The final version of the sixth edition of Linux Mint distribution has been released. The code name is Felicia. Linux Mint 6 is based on Ubuntu 8.10 “Intrepid Ibex”. It contains kernel version 2.6.27, GNOME desktop environment 2.24 and the graphics subsystem X. Org 7.4. It also offers the new software manager, FTP support in mintUpload, proxy support and the history updates in mintUpdate. There is also available mint4win - a windows installer. There are also tabs in the Nautilus and many other improvements. There is also a program for parental control - mintNanny.

Minimal installation requirements are: 512 MB RAM and 2.5 gigabytes of free disk space. In addition to the main version there is also available Linux Mint 6 “Universal” which can boot from a DVD. It supports multiple languages but does not have the multimedia codecs.
